What is a CSA ?

CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a way for consumers to directly support local farms. By having a dedicated group of members a CSA farmer can tailor his crop plan and know that he/she will have a reliable source of income. The members in turn get the freshest produce available and have a direct link to where their food is grown.

How is Farmers Fresh CSA different than a traditional CSA ?

Our CSA is run by farmers but we don't count on growing all of the produce ourselves. Instead we pull together the growing capacity of over 20 local farmers. Our goal is to support local sustainable farmers & producers many of whom are very small. This gives us access to a much wider variety of seasonal  produce and the ability to give our CSA members much more flexibility than a traditional CSA.

How does this benefit small local farms ?

Traditional marketing can take alot of time. By coordinating the marketing, packing and delivery efforts, Farmers Fresh CSA helps put the farmer back on the farm. By having the deliveries in the middle of the week, many of our farmers can supplement their Saturday markets with a mid-week harvest which helps to reduce the amount of wasted produce. We also help to reduce the travel time, fuel and expense of individual farmers coming into the city on a regular basis to sell their produce.

How does this benefit me ?

In addition to taste, there is ever-growing evidence that taking care of the soil is key to putting nutritional value back into your food. Many of you want the benefits of a backyard vegetable garden but do not have the time, space or ability to grow your own. We find that sustainable/organic growing methods are best adapted to small and medium sized farms - the ones that you can only find at farmers markets and roadside stands. We bring that level of quality with the convenience of local delivery. No need to worry about getting to the farmers market early. Plus we make it our business to know our farm partners and have a one-on-one relationship with each farmer.
